Wissa leaves Brentford’s pre-season camp ahead of potential move
Yoane Wissa has left Brentford’s pre-season training base in Portugal amid uncertainty over the forward’s future.
Nottingham Forest have long been pursuing Wissa and more recently there has been interest from Newcastle and Tottenham.
Thomas Frank, who this summer left Brentford to take over as Spurs boss, would like Wissa to join him at the north London club.
Frank was also keen to be reunited with Bryan Mbeumo, who opted for a move to Manchester United.
Wissa, 28, has a year remaining on his contract but the Bees have an option to extend that deal by 12 months, so he is effectively under contract for another two years.
Brentford are reluctant to sell him, particularly in light of Mbeumo’s departure, and have turned down offers from Forest during three consecutive transfer windows.
But Newcastle are determined to snap him up and can offer Wissa Champions League football, as can Spurs.
The DR Congo international appears to have become unsettled and has returned to London, where he is expected to hold talks with Brentford director of football Phil Giles.
Wissa scored 20 goals last season and has netted 49 since being signed from French club Lorient four years ago.
He formed a brilliant partnership with Mbeumo and losing both this summer would leave Brentford with a significant void to fill.

A few weeks back everything felt great being a Spurs fan. Money was coming from a naming rights deal, we’d signed Kudus and even signed MGW until it went pear-shaped. Now all of a sudden we’ve gone back to being the same old Spurs. We’ve signed Tel who in my opinion was a total waste of money that could have gone to sign someone a lot better. I can’t think of one thing he did since we signed him on loan that warrants him a permanent deal to Spurs. Kudus is a decent signing as long as we can keep him happy. We need so much more done to this squad so we can be competitive in the Champions League and the other cups too, as well as the league itself. We need to move out so much dead wood that isn’t moving. Levy is doing exactly what he always does and leaves the signings too late, we need to bring in some real quality then certain players might just get the message it’s better for them to go somewhere else to get game time. Whatever happens, we need to bring in QUALITY. I won’t be holding my breath, we’re always linked to all the top players every window, but always end up with a cheaper option that demands a lower wage. If Levy meant what he said, when he said, he wants us to win the Champions League and the League title. He’d better pull his finger out and get some deals done, in and out.
