QPR exit on the cards for striker Frey

Michael Frey is likely to leave QPR during this month’s transfer window.

The Swiss striker, 31, signed a new contract in September but has not made an impact this season.

He has been kept out of the side by summer signings Richard Kone and Rumarn Burrell, and has recently also slipped below Rayan Kolli in the pecking order.

With a number of clubs showing an interest in him, Rangers are open to letting Frey move elsewhere to play first-team football.

He has scored nine goals in his 51 Championship appearances since being signed from Belgian club Royal Antwerp two years ago.

Frey was not included in the matchday squad for Rangers’ 2-1 home defeat against Norwich on New Year’s Day.

The loss was their second in their past three matches – a winless run which has seen them drop to 12th in the table.

Head coach Julien Stephan said after the game: “It’s a bad run for us in the last three games, for sure, and the Christmas period is not the best moment to have this period, but we have to deal with the situation.

“It’s a big surprise because we’ve had some very strong performances at home. It’s difficult to explain why, in 10 days, a big drop like this.”
