QPR end German trip with loss in friendly

QPR were beaten 3-0 by Hoffenheim in the second of two pre-season friendlies against the German club.

The game was played at the Bundesliga side’s training ground on Sunday.

On Saturday, new signing Toni Leistner scored and Massimo Luongo made his first appearance of Rangers’ pre-season campaign as they drew 2-2 after Hoffenheim had been two up.

Luongo, who was part of Australia’s World Cup squad, played the first half of the friendly in Germany, where Leistner headed home before Ryan Manning’s late equaliser.

Leistner nodded in Luke Freeman’s free-kick and Manning, who replaced Luongo at half-time, netted from close range.

Ebere Eze was lively for Rangers in the first half and Bright Osayi-Samuel went close to pulling a goal back in the second before German centre-back Leistner sparked the late comeback.

Osman Kakay’s performance at right-back on Saturday also bodes well for Rangers, particularly in light of Darnell Furlong’s injury.

QPR will complete their pre-season schedule with a home match next Saturday, again against German opposition, when Leistner’s former club Union Berlin visit Loftus Road.

  • I think we are going to have a real problem away from home this season........ our away kit is a crime against humanity.
