Silva convinced Fulham won’t sell Wilson
Marco Silva says he is convinced Fulham will not sell Harry Wilson during next month’s transfer window.
The Welshman attracted interest from Leeds in the final stages of the summer window but Fulham did not sanction a move.
Wilson’s contract expires next summer and there have been talks about a new deal, but no agreement so far.
Nevertheless, Whites boss Silva says he believes Wilson will stay at Craven Cottage until at least the end of the season.
He said: “I don’t have any doubt right now if you ask me that Harry Wilson is going to be with us until the end of the season, at least – let’s hope for more. I don’t have any update (on a new contract).
“Harry Wilson is very focused on his season, not just in our football club. With his country as well, the way he’s performing there, the way he’s performing with us. A top professional is not going to disrupt his season at all.”
Wilson is Fulham’s top goalscorer this season, with three goals, including a fabulous long-range effort against Spurs on Saturday.
And Silva is keen for the 28-year-old’s future to be resolved.
“Of course, we want (the contract) to be sorted in a different way and quicker,” Silva said.
“Sometimes it’s not so easy. I would prefer myself as a manager, or Harry Wilson would prefer it as a
football player.
“The right people, they are speaking to each other. If something new comes, we are going to announce it.
“Probably we wanted it (a new contract) at the end of last season or we wanted it last summer as well, and it didn’t happen.
“About what happened (Leeds’ interest) last summer; to be honest with you, I never put in doubt that Harry Wilson is going to be with us.
“Of course, sometimes you get surprised with some offers that will come or not. But I didn’t have any doubt that Harry Wilson was going to be our player.”
Speaking to West London Sport in August, Wilson insisted he wanted to remain with Fulham.
“There’s definitely talks about that. I love it here and since I’ve come here I’ve felt very at home and playing in the Premier League,” Wilson told Jack Kelly on the Football Beat – West London Sport’s Fulham podcast.
“I would say there are talks about it happening. We’re not close yet but let’s see what happens in the next few months and see if we can get something agreed.”
