Warburton confirms QPR keeper Kelly asked for loan move

Mark Warburton has confirmed that Liam Kelly asked to leave QPR on loan.

West London Sport revealed this week that goalkeeper Kelly was set to join Motherwell despite Warburton wanting him to stay as cover for Seny Dieng, with the Scot making it clear he wanted to play first-team football.

Manager Warburton agreed to let him go and Kelly’s loan move was confirmed on Wednesday.

Warburton said: “Liam has been working hard and he needs to play games.

“He came and said “Look, to establish myself at QPR I’ve got to play games’.”

Rangers had been in talks with Doncaster about a potential deal for Joe Lumley to remain with the Yorkshire club, where he had been on loan.

But Lumley is now expected to replace Kelly on the bench.

Both men have been leapfrogged this season by Dieng, who has firmly established himself as Warburton’s first-choice keeper.

West London Sport also revealed this week that QPR were lining up another loan move for fourth-choice keeper Dillon Barnes after recalling him from Hibernian because of his lack of game time there.

“Dillon has come back after his loan spell and he may well go out again,” Warbuton confirmed.

“We’re very blessed in the goalkeeper department. Seny has been in imperious form.”
