Stephan hails Bennie strike and QPR’s ‘ambition’ after win at Hull

Julien Stephan praised his QPR side for their willingness to push for all three points against Hull.

Rangers’ 3-1 win keeps them in the race for a Championship play-off spot and was secured by late goals from Daniel Bennie and Richard Kone.

Shortly after coming on as a substitute for Rayan Kolli, Bennie hit the net with a scorching strike.

And as Hull pushed forward, Kone nipped in to score and seal a superb R’s win.

Head coach Stephan said: “It was a great performance and a great win for us.

“We did a great second half and had big chances, but we continued and the players showed a lot of ambition – even after we scored the second one.

“I’m very proud of that – very proud of the mindset of the players and the ambition we showed.”

Bennie’s goal was the Australian youngster’s first in the Championship.

West London Sport revealed prior to his recent inclusion in the side that Bennie, who was previously deployed on the wing, was in line for a first-team chance as a centre-foward, where he has also since featured in recent games.

Stephan said; “He has scored like this during training sessions and I said at the end of the game ‘Okay, now you are able to do that as well during the game!’

“It’s tough for him. He’s a young player, very good mindset, came on with a lot of intensity and good quality.

“Rayan Kolli did a lot for us and it was important to keep our shape and bring some fresh legs in order to stretch them.

“Hull were pushing and that gave us spaces, and we needed to use those spaces. The boys did very well.”
