QPR score late goals to win at Hull

Hull 1

Gelhardt (39′)

QPR 3

McNair (OG, 21′)
Bennie (84′)
Kone (90’+5)

Daniel Bennie’s brilliant late strike helped QPR to a superb away victory which keeps them in the thick of the battle for a play-off place.

They took the lead through Paddy McNair’s own goal and were pegged back by Joe Gelhardt’s equaliser.

Rangers appeared to be set for a fourth consecutive away draw.

However, just after coming on as a substitute, Australian youngster Bennie crashed a right-footed 30-yarder into the net – his first Championship goal.

And in stoppage time, Richard Kone slotted in Rangers’ third to seal the win.

Rangers came under early pressure but were gifted the lead midway through the first half, when keeper Ivor Pandur made a mess of dealing with Harvey Vale’s superbly delivered corner from the right.

Pandur flapped at it, colliding with team-mate Oli McBurnie, and the ball went in off Hull defender McNair at the far post.

But QPR returned the favour with some dismal defending of their own to enable the hosts to level.

After Yu Hirakawa was able to evade Rhys Norrington-Davies and send the ball low towards the six-yard box, Ronnie Edwards’ botched clearance bounced Joe Walsh and straight to Gelhardt, who helped himself to a simple goal.

Keeper Walsh produced a fine save early in the second half, diving low to his left to keep out McNair’s flick.

At the other end, Rayan Kolli fired over after linking up with Kone, and was later unable to connect with right-wing Vale’s cross, while Pandur palmed away Nicolas Madsen’s free-kick.

But Pandur could do nothing about Bennie’s emphatic strike or deny Kone, who missed two chances just before finishing coolly after finding himself in on goal.
