QPR will be without Nicolas Madsen, Rumarn Burrell and Tariq Lamptey until after next month’s international break.

Ilias Chair, meanwhile, will not return for Saturday’s home match against Championship leaders Swansea City.

Head coach Julien Stephan has confirmed, though, that Richard Kone has been given the all-clear despite going off towards the end of Saturday’s defeat at Birmingham.

Stephan also suggested that Karamoko Dembele might be back in the squad as early as this weekend.

Dembele returned to action for Rangers’ development side on Sunday, having been out since January with a long-term knee injury.

The absence of playmaker Madsen is a major blow for Rangers.

He was a substitute for the Birmingham game and was initially expected to feature, yet now faces a significant spell on the sidelines.

Stephan said: “Nico felt something at the end of the game against Derby. He did a warm-up to know if he would be available for the second part of the (Birmingham) game and it didn’t feel very good.

“The medical staff scanned him and the scan showed that he needed to rest – between three and four (weeks), probably until the international break.

“It’s a shame because we know he’s an important player for us. But now we have to think about the other options we have.”

Striker Burrell, who missed much of last season, has been out for a month.

And Lamptey’s continued absence with an ankle problem, coupled with Amadou Mbengue suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL injury), means Stephan’s options at right-back have been significantly reduced.

As things stand, Kealey Adamson will play there against Swansea.

The left-back options are stronger, with Boy Kemper having impressed in the absence of Dennis Cirkin, who is available again after suspension.

Dembele’s recovery from his ACL injury is a boost at least

“He played 45 minutes for the dev squad, so let’s see this week,” said Stephan.

“If the week is OK, perhaps he could be available for Saturday – of course for a very short playing time, but it would be good news for us if he’s available.”
