Warburton expects QPR to make more signings

Mark Warburton is confident QPR will add at least three more new signings this month after completing a loan deal for Charlie Austin until the end of the season.

Austin watched on as his new team-mates went down 2-0 in extra time to Fulham.

The 31-year-old returns on loan from West Brom five years after he left for Southampton following a memorable three-year spell with the R’s, during which he scored 45 goals in 82 games.

“People like Charlie have an experienced track record over a period of time scoring goals at the highest level,” manager Warburton said.

“That is how young players learn from them. The mentoring roles are very important.”

In addition to Austin, the club are set to complete a loan deal for Dutch centre-back Jordy de Wijs from Hull and are keen to bring in a midfielder and a left-back.

“We are very close on one or two more,” Warburton said.

“We are very light and young in terms of squad. We saw young guys come on today so we need to add some experience and we are very close to doing that.

“We need to freshen up and have cover. A lot of the boys will play again Tuesday, then Saturday then the following Wednesday.

“I hope very much we can get three or four more names in this January.”
