QPR accept defeat in bid to sign defender from Tottenham

QPR were on Friday afternoon ready to admit defeat in their attempt to secure the signing of Michael Dawson from Tottenham.

Rangers were hopeful of persuading the 28-year-old to join them ahead of tonight’s deadline even though he has appeared reluctant to make the move.

But their bid to capture him was dealt a blow on Thursday when the north London club, who had accepted an offer for Dawson, indicated that they are now less inclined to let him go.

It followed news that Spurs defender Younes Kaboul will be sidelined for up to four months with a knee injury.

Kaboul’s absence means Dawson, who was not in manager Andre Villas-Boas’ first-team plans, may now have a role to play.

Rangers were determined to make a final attempt to try and push the deal through but have again been told that Kaboul’s injury means Dawson is likely to stay at White Hart Lane.

Stephane Mbia, who will complete his move to QPR from Marseille later today, has been signed to play at centre-back although he can also operate in midfield.
