QPR leave out Phillips and Tozser ahead of possible moves

QPR: Matt Phillips and Daniel Tozser

Matt Phillips has been left out of the QPR squad for their pre-season visit to the Netherlands as the club look to offload the winger and Daniel Tozser.

West Bromwich Albion, who had a bid for Phillips rejected last summer, have made enquiries about the winger in recent weeks. A number of other clubs have also informally indicated that they are interested in a potential deal to sign him.

Rangers are keen to sell Phillips, 25, along with the likes of Sandro and Leroy Fer.

Meanwhile, midfielder Tozser is not in Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s plans and has also been left out for the Dutch trip, which is scheduled to include friendlies against PSV Eindhoven and Groningen.

QPR: Ariel Boysiuk
New signing Ariel Botysiuk has travelled with the squad

Tozser, 31, was signed a year ago, swapping Watford – where he enjoyed a promotion-winning season while on loan from Parma – for a troubled QPR side that struggled under the then head coach Chris Ramsey.

The Hungarian quickly became unhappy at Loftus Road and has subsequently fallen well out of favour with Hasselbaink, who took over as Rangers manager in December. Both parties are keen for Tozser to move on this summer.

Fer move close

As the QPR squad prepared to travel, Fer was preparing to complete a move to Swansea, where the Dutch midfielder ended last season on loan. Rangers could net up to £4.75m if that deal goes through on Monday as expected.

Sandro is also not involved in Hasselbaink’s pre-season preparations as efforts are being stepped up to find him a new club. A proposed move to Sporting Lisbon recently fell through after the Brazilian failed a medical.

And striker Conor Washington will remain in London as his pre-season break has been extended because of his involvement with Northern Ireland at the European Championship.

Goalkeeper Alex Smithies, who missed Friday’s friendly at Aldershot Town, has been included in the R’s squad.

So too have Steven Caulker – Hasselbaink insists he wants the defender to stay – and new signings Ariel Borysiuk, Joel Lynch and Jake Bidwell.
