Scowen completes move from QPR to Sunderland

Sunderland have completed the signing of Josh Scowen from QPR for an undisclosed fee.

West London Sport revealed earlier on Monday that Scowen was set to join the Black Cats and that QPR are now reconsidering plans to end Matt Smith’s season-long loan.

Midfielder Scowen, 26, made 96 Championship appearances for Rangers after being signed on a free transfer after leaving Barnsley in 2017.

He was a key player in his first season at Loftus Road but has since struggled to hold down a regular place and has been out of favour under boss Mark Warburton this season.

Scowen’s departure and Nahki Wells’ season-long loan from Burnley being scrapped mean plans to end Smith’s loan spell are now being reviewed.

Smith has been unable to make an impact since arriving from Manchester City, who have been intending to send him elsewhere in the coming days.
