Barnsley among clubs interested in QPR’s Larkeche
Ziyad Larkeche could return to Barnsley, who are interested in taking him on loan from QPR.
Larkeche spent most of the 2022-23 campaign on loan from Fulham at the Yorkshire club, before moving to Loftus Road on a free transfer.
He was highly rated by the then Rangers manager Gareth Ainsworth but struggled to establish himself as a first-team player.
The 23-year-old left-back spent the season before last on loan at Dundee. He was then earmarked for a run in the QPR side – and was given a new contract – but suffered a long-term knee injury during training last summer.
And with Larkeche not in head coach’s Julien Stephan’s plans for this season, Barnsley are keen to snap him up.
There is interest too from Bromley, and in the player’s native France, with Ligue 2 clubs Annecy, Rodez and Guingamp currently also in the running to take him on loan.
Ainsworth, now manager of Gillingham, would like to snap Larkeche up, but a drop to League Two seems unlikely.
QPR’s preference is for Larkeche, Rayan Kolli and Kieran Morgan to have successful season-long loans playing in League One although, like Larkeche, Kolli has potential options outside the UK, with several clubs having shown some interest.
Meanwhile, Swansea have joined Watford in showing an interest in R’s defender Jake Clarke-Salter.
And summer signing Boy Kemper is expected to be out for at least six weeks with an ankle injury.
