Gusto to miss Everton game but should return soon
Malo Gusto will miss Chelsea’s game against Everton on Saturday but is expected to return soon – along with Marc Guiu.
Gusto picked up a hamstring injury during the recent derby win at Fulham, where he came on as a half-time substitute for Reece James.
But he has been able to train this week and head coach Enzo Maresca is hopeful Gusto will be back in the squad for Thursday’s Conference League semi-final first leg against Djurgården or next Sunday’s league match at Liverpool.
Maresca said: “Malo is injured but it does not look an important injury. He is already running and doing things outside.
“He won’t be available for tomorrow, but hopefully the next one.”
Christopher Nkunku was left out of the matchday squad for the Fulham game but has been included this weekend.
Romeo Lavia recently returned to the squad after injury and Maresca says the plan is for him to be eased back to action in the same way James has been.
“In terms of Romeo, we are going to try the same thing we did with Reece James. We know we have to go step by step,” Maresca explained.
Striker Guiu, meanwhile, has been out with a groin injury.
The 19-year-old has not featured since early February but is on course to be available again before the end of the season.
“He’s close. Hopefully it can be in one week or two weeks and he can be with us for the rest of the season,” Maresca said.
