Egan moves to Sheffield United in £4m deal

Sheffield United have broken their transfer record by signing John Egan from Brentford for £4m.

The centre-back, who has played twice for the Republic of Ireland, has signed a four-year contract at Bramall Lane after Brentford accepted an offer for him.

Egan, 25, made 67 Championship appearances for the Bees after being signed from Gillingham two years ago.

His impressive performances attracted interest from a number of clubs prior to Sheffield United tabling a formal bid.

Brentford cashed in on Egan after signing centre-back Ezri Konsa from Charlton and rejecting bids from Bournemouth for Chris Mepham.
