Andrews wants Janelt to stay at Brentford

Keith Andrews says he wants Vitaly Janelt to sign a new contract and stay at Brentford.

The midfielder’s Bees deal expires next summer and he has so far not agreed a new contract.

Reports have suggested that Janelt, 27, is on course to leave west London and return to his native Germany. Eintracht Frankfurt have been linked with him.

But head coach Andrews said: “I’ve had discussions with Vitaly. I think Vitaly would be pretty clear on my thoughts around that. I would like Vitali to stay. I like what he’s about as a player, as a person.

“He’s been a real glue around the football club, even when he’s been injured in recent months. He knows the landscape of this club really, really well.

“He’s achieved a lot at this football club. This football club’s been good for him as well. He’s been able to grow and develop as a man and obviously as a player.

“So I would like to hopefully get that (new contract) done.”

There have also been doubts over the future of Kristoffer Ajer.

Brentford rejected an offer from Wolfsburg for Ajer during the summer but they remain interested in the defender and look likely to return with another bid.

“I’m not really interested in that,” said Andrews, who has consistently made it clear that he wants Ajer to stay.
