Round-up: Best to train with QPR, keeper in talks, Green enquiry, Saunders scores, Middlesex win
It’s been another busy day at QPR, who are in talks with Huddersfield goalkeeper Alex Smithies after agreeing a deal with the Yorkshire club.
Smithies, 25, signed a new contract with the Terriers earlier this year but has been given permission to discuss a move to Loftus Road.
Rangers have been looking for a keeper to compete with Rob Green. However, following reports that West Ham would move to re-sign the 35-year-old, Rangers have received an enquiry from them regarding Green’s availability.
Meanwhile, striker Leon Best – a free agent after leaving Blackburn – will train with the R’s ahead of a possible move.
Junior Hoilett scored a hat-trick for QPR’s development side, who were involved in a 5-5 draw with Huddersfield.
And head coach Chris Ramsey has said that the performances of the likes of Michael Doughty and Cole Kpekawa have shown the youngsters could save Rangers money in the transfer market.
Brentford’s second string have been in action too – Sam Saunders scored one of their goals as they drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has explained his decision to substitute skipper John Terry against Manchester City.
And in cricket, Dawid Malan’s career-best 156 not out helped Middlesex end their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign with a win over Glamorgan.
