Youngsters could save QPR money – Ramsey

Chris Ramsey says the performances of youngsters such as Michael Doughty and Cole Kpekawa could save QPR money in the transfer market.

Rangers have once again overhauled their squad during the summer, making wholesale changes since being relegated from the Premier League last season.

But head coach Ramsey believes midfielder Doughty, 22, and defender Kpekawa, 19, have shown they deserve their chance at first-team level.

“I’ve been very pleased with the way some of the young players have responded – Michael Doughty and Cole Kpekawa in particular,” Ramsey said.

“They may end up saving us a few quid because we may not have to replenish certain parts of the field because they’re performing at a level which suggests they will be in the squad.”

Kpekawa made his senior debut for the club in last week’s League Cup win at Yeovil, while Doughty [pictured] featured in that match and came on as a substitute in the 2-2 draw against Cardiff City on Saturday.
