Polter and JET score their first goals as QPR ease through

Yeovil Town 0 QPR 3

Sebastian Polter and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas both opened their QPR accounts and Nedum Onuoha netted on his 100th appearance as Rangers cruised into the second round of the League Cup.

Polter gave the visitors the lead on 15 minutes when he outmuscled Yeovil’s on-loan Fulham defender Stephen Arthurworrey before stabbing the ball over advancing keeper Artur Krysiak.

Four minutes later, QPR doubled their lead when Cole Kpekawa, on his senior debut, sent over a cross which Emmmanuel-Thomas converted.

A Rangers side much changed from Saturday’s league defeat almost had a third late in the first half when Polter’s header from a Matt Phillips corner was cleared off the line.

League Two Yeovil were much improved immediately after the break and Rob Green was forced into a fine save by Marc Laird’s shot and from the resulting corner Arthurworrey’s headed bounced on to the top of the crossbar.

But on 56 minutes QPR added a third as the Glovers failed to deal with a Phillips corner and Onuoha drilled in from 10 yards.

Rangers, who gave debuts to Grant Hall, Oscar Gobern and Ben Gladwin, also brought on Tyler Blackwood for the final 20 minutes, while fellow sub Junior Hoilett fizzed a shot over the bar.

Chris Ramsey’s side were fairly comfortable but were indebted to Green for preserving the clean sheet late on, stretching to push away Nathan Smith’s effort.

QPR: Green, Perch, Onuoha, Hall, Kpekawa, Phillips (Blackwood 70), Doughty, Gobern (Hoilett 77), Gladwin (Henry 59), Emmanuel-Thomas, Polter.
Subs: Lumley, Konchesky, Luongo, Chery.
