QPR rescue point against Burnley

Ilias Chair helped QPR rescue a point by setting up Jonathan Varane’s second-half equaliser at Loftus Road.

Chair, back in action after another injury lay-off, made a big impact after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Rangers, trailing to Largie Ramazani’s opener, finally drew level courtesy of only Varane’s second Championship goal.

They had most of the first-half possession – and Harvey Vale went close with a free-kick – but fell behind against the run of play seven minutes before the interval.

Ramazani’s right-footed strike from near the edge of the penalty area caught out goalkeeper Pierce Charles, who got a hand to the ball but was unable to keep it out of the net.

Burnley appeared to have scored again a couple of minutes later, when Andreas Hountondji netted at the far post, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

With Rangers struggling to create chances, head coach Julien Stephan made a double change on the hour mark, sending on Chair and Rayan Kolli in place of the ineffective Richard Kone and Koki Saito.

The two substitutes combined immediately, with Chair blazing well over after being set up by Kolli.

And, shortly after Chair had an effort saved by keeper Grégoire Coudert, he produced a trademark dash inside from the left towards the middle and laid the ball across to Varane, whose side-footed shot should have been saved but ended up in the net via Coudert meekly palming it onto the inside of the post.

Justin Obikwu, also on as a substitute, had a great chance to put Rangers ahead in the 90th minute but dragged a shot wide of the target.
