QPR strikers have been a let-down – Gallen
Kevin Gallen believes strikers Lyndon Dykes, Charlie Austin and Andre Gray have let QPR down this season.
Injuries have been a major factor in the terrible slump which has seen the team drop from the thick of the promotion race to a mid-table position.
But former Rangers forward Gallen feels the three attackers have been a huge let-down.
Dykes and Austin have been unable to repeat the form they showed during the second half of last season, while Gray has been largely disappointing since arriving on loan from Watford.
Speaking on the West London Sport QPR podcast, Gallen said: “The strikers this season I think have been really poor and let the team down.
“All three of them haven’t got going one bit. They might say ‘I’ve never had a proper run of games’ and this, that and the other. But when they have played I haven’t been impressed.
“Andre Gray in the last six weeks has done a lot better but before that didn’t do much.
“Charlie Austin started the season OK. Since then he hasn’t really played and when he comes on he hasn’t looked half the player he was last season.
“Lyndon Dykes is the same. The Lyndon Dykes from the end of last season to this season is a completely different player.”
Gallen was joined by West London Sport’s Dan Bennett and Ian McCullough.
They also discussed the expected departure of manager Mark Warburton and several players in the wake of Rangers missing out on the play-offs.

Strikers need service – yes, but they also need to be in position to receive that service. Charlie’s too slow now, Lyndon is a shadow of himself and Andre gets a goal and then seems to think he’s done his bit, takes it easy for the rest of the game. For me, the problem is the team selection and the way they are expected to play, Look at Thomas, played as a striker during the last game, was replaced by Gray who looked like he had less energy than Thomas who had just ran around for 70 minutes. The last game was unbelievably bad. Too many back passes or cross field passes, back to the ‘keeper etc etc. The problem is blatantly obvious, decent players on loan or sitting on the bench week after week,not getting a game or thrown on at the last minute, Its blatantly obvious for all to see, its down to this obstinate manager, time to go old chap.

I do not think it is right of Gallen to say the strikers have let the club down, they have not had the service because i believe the way the team has been set up. Strikers need service. Charlie who has given great service to the club and much loved is to slow now, Dykes is one for the future and Gray was never really given the chance he deserved as he could have been our best with a better run of games. They would have had much better service if Albert was used as a proper winger and not a wing back, bad mistake by Mark, even know he can not see it. Mark should go for the sake of the club as i think he has failed and the club if anything is drifting back to where it was 3 years ago in terms of the team performance. We have much better players then that. Mark just does not seem to know what he is doing. A couple of the last games he played a 4222 formation, Man U tried that and soon abandoned it, no width. And how can you select George as a forward, nonsence. Please go Mark.
