QPR have injury worries but Dieng is close to return

QPR have a number of injury worries ahead of Saturday’s game at Stoke – but Seny Dieng has moved closer to a return.

Rangers need to win all their final three matches of the season to have any real hope of snatching a play-off place.

But they continue to be plagued by injuries, with Moses Odubajo now ruled out of the remainder of the campaign along with the likes of Chris Willock and Rob Dickie.

Lee Wallace will remain sidelined for the trip north, while Yoann Barbet and Jeff Hendrick are among players who will have fitness tests.

Manager Mark Warburton admitted: “It (the treatment room) has been very busy. We’ll have two or three boys having fitness tests.

“It’s a bit of a struggle at the moment, I must be honest.”

Hendrick was due to return to training on Friday, albeit just a light session, and might be among the substitutes against the Potters.

Warburton explained: “He hasn’t trained with the group yet. He will be in for what is a very light session today to see if there’s no reaction and if he has the potential to be in the squad.

“We’ll see if there’s any reaction. Hopefully there isn’t and he’ll be available to be on the bench for us.”

There is somewhat better news on goalkeeper Dieng, who has made good progress since recently returning to light training.

Prior to that, hopes Dieng would return from a thigh injury before the end of the season were fading.

But now it is hoped he could play against Sheffield United next Friday.

Warburton said: “Seny’s getting closer. He may well rejoin the group shortly, which is good.

“Tomorrow will be too soon for him, but then a good week in training and we’ll see where we are for next Friday.”
