QPR keeper Dieng looks unlikely to return this season
Mark Warburton has confirmed that hopes QPR goalkeeper Seny Dieng will play again before the end of the season are fading.
Dieng has been sidelined since suffering a thigh injury during the defeat at Blackburn on 26 February.
Rangers hoped he would return before the campaign finished, but West London Sport recently revealed that the chances of him doing so were diminishing.
And manager Warburton admits Dieng is looking unlikely to feature again before next season.
The Senegal international returned to light training on Wednesday but is still some way from a return to fitness.
Warburton explained: “He did some very light jogging for the first time yesterday.
“Seny, at best, was going to be back for the last games, and I’m not sure that’s going to be the case.”
Dieng is one of four Rangers goalkeepers to have been sidelined by injury during a dire run-in in which the club’s play-off hopes have disintegrated.
Jordan Archer, David Marshall and youngster Joe Walsh are also out, with Marshall’s absence leading to the short-term signing of veteran keeper Kieren Westwood.
Warburton admitted: “Certainly the style of play – I think it’s very hard for Kieren to suddenly come in and adapt to a new style of football.
“We like to play, we defend from the front, attack from the back, play when we can and clip it out to the wing-backs and so on.
“I think that’s been very difficult for him. Seny was obviously ingrained in that and knew it very well. There’s no doubt that’s a loss.”
Meanwhile, Westwood is among the Rangers players battling to be fit for Friday’s game against Huddersfield.
