QPR confirm signing of keeper Begovic

QPR have confirmed the signing of Asmir Begovic.

The vastly experienced goalkeeper, 36, was a free agent after leaving Everton, where his contract recently expired. He rejected an offer of a new deal.

Begovic, who has agreed a one-year contract with the R’s, owns a goalkeeper academy with a base in west London, so was keen to return to the area.

He has spent most of his career in England and previously had a two-year spell at Chelsea.

He left Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2017 to join Bournemouth, where he spent four years before moving to Everton.

Begovic has also played for Portsmouth and Stoke, and in 2020 he had a spell on loan at AC Milan.

He has been signed as a replacement for Seny Dieng, who was recently sold to Middlesbrough.

Rangers are also looking to sign a midfielder in the next week or so.

Lewis Wing, out of contract and available on a free transfer having left Wycombe, where he played under R’s boss Gareth Ainsworth, is a potential option.
