QPR v Sheffield United player ratings

QPR were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield United at Loftus Road, where they produced another poor display. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player.

Joe Walsh: 6

Deserves some credit for responding to a poor display at Southampton in midweek with a relatively better performance.

Ronnie Edwards: 6

Slow to react in the build-up to the first goal, which Rangers had a number of chances to prevent. Edwards defended well for the most part, though, and contributed going forward.

Jimmy Dunne: 7

With Republic of Ireland assistant boss John O’Shea watching on, Dunne appeared to be acting as a lone defender at times as Rangers searched for a goal.

Jake Clarke-Salter: 7

Showed his obvious ability, and his quality on the ball, before going off in the second half. A welcome return to action.

Esquerdinha: 5

Looked out of his depth before being taken off at half-time. The visitors played around him far too easily on the flank, including in the build-up to the opening goal.

Harvey Vale: 6

Came up with some quality deliveries and poses a threat coming in from the right on his left foot.

Jonathan Varane: 5

Rangers needed a steadying performance from the experienced Varane in the absence of the injured Nicolas Madsen. They didn’t get one. He was poor throughout and him giving the ball away led to the second goal.

Kieran Morgan: 6

Found the going tough in a midfield the visitors controlled. The youngster didn’t hide, however, and was involved in some of Rangers’ best attacking moments, including when he set up a late chance for Paul Smyth.

Koki Saito: 5

Anonymous before going off in the second half. United handled Saito with embarrassing ease.

Daniel Bennie: 5

His partnership up front with Richard Kone showed some early promise, with the pair linking up well at the start. But as United took control, Bennie faded from the game and was replaced at half-time.

Richard Kone: 6

Rangers’ best player in the first half and worked hard up front from start to finish. Very unlucky to have a goal disallowed when he headed in Vale’s corner.

Paul Smyth: 6

Livened things up after his half-time introduction but again lacked composure, missing a decent chance to pull a goal back when set up by Morgan.

Rayan Kolli: 6

Replaced Bennie but, like the Australian, struggled against a robust defence.

Isaac Hayden: 6

OK after coming on for Varane on the hour mark.

Amadou Mbengue:

Came on for Clarke-Salter in the second half.
