QPR among clubs interested in Whatmough after Wigan exit

QPR are among clubs interested in Jack Whatmough following his departure from Wigan.

The centre-back, 26, terminated his contract because of repeated contractual breaches by the club’s previous ownership.

Wigan were relegated from the Championship last season and failed to pay their players on time on six occasions.

Rangers boss Gareth Ainsworth signed Morgan Fox last week and is keen to bring in another centre-back.

He would like to sign Chris Forino from his former side Wycombe but the two clubs have so far been unable to agree a deal.

A number of other possible options have been explored and those now include Whatmough, but he has plenty of suitors after impressing last season despite Wigan’s woes.

Meanwhile, Rangers have asked Aston Villa about the possibility of taking Tim Iroegbunam on loan again, but at this stage a return for the midfielder seems unlikely.

There is still a chance that Chris Martin will return to QPR.

Striker Martin’s short-term contract recently ended but he has remained in contact with Rangers and is considering his options.
