QPR end interest in £10m-rated Deeney

QPR have abandoned their bid to sign Troy Deeney after Watford demanded £10m for the striker.

Deeney, 26, scored 25 goals last season and Rangers were keen to take him to Loftus Road this summer.

Boss Harry Redknapp was initially hopeful of a deal but the Hornets have so far refused to back down over the asking price.

Redknapp said: “Watford have got their own valuation, which they’re entitled to, and it’s a bit more than we would want to pay.”

Rangers are, however, still pursuing the signing of Ajax’s Icelandic striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson.

A £5m bid for the 24-year-old was accepted weeks ago but personal terms have yet to be agreed.
