Rangers keen to seal signing of Deeney

QPR manager Harry Redknapp says he hopes to complete the signing of Watford forward Troy Deeney in the next few days.

Burnley have been linked with the 26-year-old but Clarets boss Sean Dyche has insisted they will not be signing him, while Leicester are also reported to be interested.

Redknapp is determined to bring in at least one striker this summer – despite Loic Remy’s proposed move to Liverpool appearing to collapse.

Talks with Watford, who want £8m, are continuing and Deeney, who scored 25 goals last season, would jump at the chance to play in the Premier League.

Redknapp said: “We’re trying to do it. We’ve been talking to Watford. I think there are one or two other clubs; Burnley came and made an offer, and Leicester.

“We’ll have to wait and see where that one goes. But he’s a player of interest to us.”

QPR are still pursuing the signing of Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, although Redknapp has admitted negotiations are “dragging on” despite a fee being agreed with Ajax.

Rangers have so far been unable to agree personal terms with the Icelandic frontman.
