Masterson’s Gills move confirmed after release by QPR

QPR defender Conor Masterson

Gillingham have confirmed the signing of Conor Masterson following his release by QPR.

The defender is among six out-of-contract players leaving Rangers.

He was signed in 2019 after leaving Liverpool but was unable to establish himself as a first-team regular at Loftus Road.

Masterson has been on loan with the Gills and ex-QPR assistant manager Kenny Jackett – now Kent club’s director of football – had made it clear that they wanted to sign him on a permanent deal.

Jackett said: “He has done very well in his loan spell this year in our resurgence during the back end of the season and everybody at the club is looking forward to working with him in 2023/24.”
