Defender Barbet confirms QPR exit

Yoann Barbet has confirmed he is leaving QPR.

Barbet, whose contract expires this summer, has been in talks with Bordeaux.

West London Sport revealed in April that the failure to offer Barbet a new deal was a source of conflict between the club hierarchy and former manager Mark Warburton – and that the defender, 29, was keen to stay despite rumours he wanted to return to his native France.

And in a post on social media announcing his departure, Barbet confirmed that he had wanted to stay.

He added “the club and I couldn’t come to an agreement” over a new contract and that his relationship with Rangers fans had got “better and better” during his three years at Loftus Road.

Barbet was signed on a free transfer in 2019 after leaving Brentford. He made 114 appearances for the R’s – who have reignited their interest in Fortuna Sittard left-back George Cox.
