Ian Holloway admitted he did not believe QPR’s youngsters were ready to step up for Monday’s derby against Brentford.

With a number of defenders sidelined, the Rangers boss considered including young players in his squad for the game at Loftus Road, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

In the end he opted to deploy Jordan Cousins in a defensive role until Pawel Wszolek came on as a second-half substitute.

“I was very pleased with those who played at the back for us,” Holloway said.

“I had to decide to play Jordan Cousins, who was injured the other day, and I thought he was terrific. And I’ve got Pav there.

“Putting a young one in that situation, some of them aren’t ready yet.”
