QPR youngster Shodipo ‘going nowhere’

Mark Warburton says he has no intention of letting Olamide Shodipo leave QPR on loan.

The winger, who recently turned 22, has struggled to establish himself at Rangers since breaking into the first team three years ago, partly because of injury problems.

Shodipo faces a battle for a place with the likes of Ebere Eze, Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ilias Chair.

But he has impressed boss Warburton, who plans to keep him in the squad rather than loan him out.

Warburton said: “I think he’s had a fantastic pre-season. He’s figured in every game for us and I said to him before the Watford game that he was very unlucky not to start.

“You’ve got Bright Samuel, Ebere and Ilias, they’re young players who are desperate for the shirt and are pushing really hard.

“Shodipo’s going nowhere. Far from it.”

Warburton has also indicated that he is minded to begin the season with Grant Hall as skipper before making a decision on who to install as club captain.

Hall, previously plagued by knee trouble, has worn the armband during pre-season.

Summer signings Geoff Cameron and Lee Wallace are seen as contenders to take over as captain in the longer term.

However, Cameron is still building up his fitness following his recent free transfer from Stoke, where he was training with the Under-23s.

Wallace, who previously played under Warburton at Glasgow Rangers, will miss the start of the season because of a hip problem and faces competition from Ryan Manning for a place at left-back.
