Warburton ‘frustrated beyond belief’ after QPR defeat

QPR manager Mark Warburton was incensed by a hugely controversial penalty decision during his team’s derby defeat against Brentford.

Rangers were beaten 3-1 at Loftus Road, where Grant Hall hauled them level before Josh Scowen was adjudged to have fouled Bryan Mbeumo.

Said Benrahma restored the visitors’ lead with the resulting spot-kick and Ollie Watkins’ second goal of the game sealed Brentford’s victory.

“It was lost on a big decision, let’s be really clear,” said former Bees boss Warburton.

“We deserved to go in at half-time 1-0 down. We had to step up the tempo and move the ball better in the second half – and we did.

“We got the equaliser, were in the ascendancy and I was really confident at that point.

“Then that decision changes everything. You have to be really sure if you’re going to give a call like that – make sure you’re 100%.

“I think you’ve seen the replays I’ve seen. I think I’ll let you describe it because I might get fined if I describe it appropriately.

“We were in good shape and I’m frustrated beyond belief to see a game change in that manner over that type of call.

“You see Josh go to make the challenge. He then pulls his left leg back, puts his hands up and the guy (Mbeumo) is already in the air.”

  • poor defending cost us the game, that and the fact that we are playing a non defender in a defensive role(Manning),the defence never goes forward instead every ball goes back to the keeper, its frustrating to see the lack of creativity from the back ,they can't defend and they can't go forward every club now knows it and that's why we won't win many more games.Time to get in a defensive co-ordinator who can teach our players to defend properly and how to dispose of the ball creatively.

  • Well I can describe it appropriately - when the ref reviews the playback, he WILL be embarrassed (unless he's blind). What a dive! the cheat should have received a red card. But then its a lot easier to see with slow motion playback.
Having said that, we definitely need to strengthen our defence, the manager's not daft, I am sure he will get there soon. One things for sure. we cannot expect to win every game, but home games should be a nailed on cert.
