Sandro back at QPR but is told he must fight for place

Sandro has reported to QPR’s Harlington training ground, having returned to the country after an issue with his work permit was finally resolved.

He rejoined his Rangers team-mates on Friday – but has been told he will not go straight back into the Rangers side.

Head coach Chris Ramsey says is in no rush to select the injury-plagued midfielder ahead of the likes of Karl Henry and Alejandro Faurlin.

QPR are also set to add another midfielder to their squad, with Hungary international Daniel Tozser, 30, expected to sign on Friday evening.

Ramsey said: “Any team misses him, but I think the players who are here have done their job. So, if he comes back and is fit, he’s going to have to fight his way into the team like everyone else.”

Sandro, signed from Tottenham for £6m a year ago, missed the final three matches of last season after it transpired that he did not have a valid work permit.

He was therefore unable to re-enter the country after a holiday in his native Brazil until the correct paperwork had been issued.

Troubled by knee problems before and after his move from Spurs, Sandro made 17 appearances for QPR last season.

Ramsey and Rangers director of football Les Ferdinand were on the coaching staff at Tottenham during his time at White Hart Lane.
