Injured Sessegnon could miss Fulham’s clash with Man Utd

Fulham will again be without Ryan Sessegnon for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie at West Ham – and he is a doubt for Sunday’s game against Manchester United.

The left-back missed the goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday with a groin problem, and Alvaro Arbeloa confirmed on Monday morning that Sessegnon will also sit out the game against the Hammers.

Arbeloa explained: “We had a small program with Sess last week, so we were not sure if he was ready for the Saturday game.

“He had some scans, and we didn’t take any risk with him, so he won’t be available for tomorrow’s game.

“We’ll see if he can be available for Man United, but we don’t know yet. We don’t want to take any risk with him for sure. It’s a small problem in the groin.”

Fulham were much improved at Liverpool, producing an impressive performance to secure their first point since Arbeloa took over as head coach during the summer.

Defender David Affengruber’s display on his debut was a major positive for the Whites.

“I knew him very well and we were looking for a centre-back during all of the summer,” said Arbeloa.

“I talked about him with the club at the beginning of the summer, but they were looking at other players.

“They were looking for a player that has experience in the Premier League or maybe a player whose profile is more similar to the Premier League centre-backs.

“But I knew him very, very well. His first game in a difficult stadium was against a very difficult opponent, and he did really well.

“He has that personality; he’s very, very good with the ball, he’s so intelligent, but also he’s strong,

“I think he has the pace and he understands the game very well, so I think he can play even better.”
