Fulham defeat is ‘unfair’, says Silva
Marco Silva described Fulham’s defeat as “unfair” after Lisandro Martinez’s fortuitous goal gave Manchester United a 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage.
Martinez’s shot struck Fulham midfielder Sasa Lukic and looped over keeper Bernd Leno.
It came in the 78th minute and was United’s first effort on target. The home side were on top for much of the game.
Whites boss Silva said: “I think it was cruel for us tonight. The result, their first shot on [target] on 78 minutes. Clearly we were the team that had more control.
“I don’t remember one dangerous moment from them during the first half. Our second half was not as good and, unfortunately for us, a really lucky goal, deflection, they scored.”
Fulham went agonisingly close to a late equaliser when Joachim Andersen’s header from Andreas Pereira’s corner was cleared off the line by Toby Collyer.
“I think the result is really unfair. It is not what we deserve, but football is like that,” Silva said.
“They are very lucky to win tonight.”
Meanwhile, Fulham will assess an ankle injury suffered by Harry Wilson, who had to be taken off early in the second half.
