Sunderland manager is keen to agree deal for Cesar – report

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is keen to agree a deal to sign Julio Cesar from QPR, according to the Daily Mail.

Poyet, a former Chelsea team-mate of R’s goalkeeping coach Kevin Hitchcock, recently indicated that he was interested in the Brazil keeper.

Despite reported interest from a host of clubs since Cesar was made available at the end of last season, it was the first approach Rangers had received for him, but they have not heard from Sunderland since.

However, it is claimed that several clubs want Cesar, that Poyet hopes Hitchcock will help him secure his signing, and once again that the 34-year-old’s wages are a stumbling block to him moving.

It is also claimed that Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has warned the 34-year-old that he needs to leave QPR and play first-team football or face missing out on the World Cup.
