QPR v Charlton player ratings

Charlie Austin’s cracking goal gave QPR a deserved three points against Charlton. Here’s how we rated the Rangers players in their latest victory.

Rob Green: 7
Put in a solid display and produced a routine but important first-half save shortly before Austin’s goal.

Danny Simpson: 7
Got through plenty of work on the right-hand side. His distribution can be erratic but he was otherwise very reliable.

Richard Dunne: 7
Seemed to benefit from his rest during the recent international break. Looked sharp and alert throughout.

Clint Hill: 7
Also had a good game at the back, although Rangers’ centre-back pairing weren’t tested much.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto: 7
One outrageous turn and a cheeky nutmeg summed up how easily the classy left-back strolled through the game.

Matt Phillips: 6
Things are still falling into place for the summer signing after an injury-affected start to his QPR career. Has plenty of pace and ability but needs a run of games to get his sharpness and confidence back.

Joey Barton: 7
Had a comfortable game in midfield. Used the ball sensibly and was prepared to put a foot in whenever needed.

Jermaine Jenas: 6
Made a decent start but struggled to complete the first half before being substituted at half-time because of an ongoing hamstring problem.

Niko Kranjcar: 6
Another relatively recent arrival who is still getting his sharpness back after injury problems. Showed his class at times but is capable of much more.

Gary O’Neil: 7
Got into good areas, providing an important link between Austin and the midfield as well as dropping deep when needed to ensure Rangers controlled the centre of the pitch.

Charlie Austin: 8
Scored a great goal and, as assistant manager Kevin Bond said afterwards, deserved his moment for being prepared to keep working when things haven’t gone his way this season. Worked hard again up front and didn’t allow the Charlton defence to settle.

Karl Henry: 6
Was effective in midfield after replacing Jenas.

Shaun Wright-Phillips: 7
Impressed after coming on. Had one long-range effort saved and was unlucky to see another hit the bar.
