Lack of goals puts pressure on QPR defence, admits assistant boss

Assistant manager Kevin Bond admitted QPR are struggling in front of goal despite Charlie Austin’s fine strike securing a 1-0 victory at home to Charlton.

Austin’s 30-yarder five minutes before half-time – his eighth goal of the season – gave promotion-chasing Rangers another narrow win.

Their success this term has been built on a rock-solid defence and boss Harry Redknapp is keen for them to improve at the other end of the pitch.

“It was tight today and it didn’t need to be,” said Bond.

“We could have scored more goals and we hit the bar, but we’ll happily take that and it’s another clean sheet for us.

“It was a great goal from Charlie and he deserved that, because when he’s not scored he’s worked really hard and I think the fans appreciate that.

“Harry’s teams have never been purposefully built on defence. They’ve been built on flair and letting people play and he still wants that.

“But this situation has evolved. It does put pressure on the defence but as long as you keep your concentration you can keep clean sheets.”
