Fulham v Chelsea player ratings

John Terry scored twice as Chelsea took a big step towards a Champions League place. Here’s how we rated the players in the west London derby at Craven Cottage.

Fulham

Mark Schwarzer: 5
The veteran keeper looked his age as he fumbled crosses and reacted slowly to shots – including one effort from Frank Lampard which he bizarrely pushed away with his shoulder.

Sascha Riether: 8
Had an excellent game at right-back. Closed down very effectively and got forward well. Delivered a number of quality crosses, including a second-minute one for Bryan Ruiz that should have resulted in a goal.

Philippe Senderos: 5
A poor showing from the defender, who continues to look wholly unconvincing. Uncertain on the ball and repeatedly guilty of allowing his man too much space. Was caught out badly for Chelsea’s all-important second goal, allowing John Terry to sneak behind him and head home Juan Mata’s cross.

Brede Hangeland of Fulham.
Hangeland had a decent game.

Brede Hangeland: 7
Compensated for his hapless centre-back partner with a calm and solid display.

John Arne Riise: 6
Did reasonably well against the tricky Eden Hazard and got forward when possible. Sloppy on the ball at times though and missed a decent chance to score in the first half.

Eyong Enoh: 6
Exciting to watch and produced moments of quality. Playing against the experienced Lampard and Ramires was a tall order, however, and he did find the going tough.

Giorgos Karagounis: 7
Used his experience and fared better against Chelsea’s midfield. Sensible on the ball, firm in the tackle and has proved to be an important player in the absence of Steve Sidwell.

Urby Emanuelson: 6
Obviously has ability, but struggled to get into the game bar one occasion on which he cut in from the left and tried his luck on goal.

Bryan Ruiz: 6
Produced moments of class but was unable to influence the game – and missed a great chance to score early on.

Dimitar Berbatov: 6
Quiet in an attacking sense but performed an important role, dropping deep to help link play during a dominant spell for Fulham in which they should have scored.

Mladen Petric: 5
A night to forget for the striker, who had little joy up front and managed to deny his team a goal when, in an offside position, he diverted Senderos’ goal-bound header away from the target.

Hugo Rodallega: 6
Added some pace and directness when he came on but the game was well out of Fulham’s reach by then.

Chelsea

Petr Cech: 7
Made important saves before and after the opening goal.

Branislav Ivanovic: 7
Totally assured at the back and knew far too much for Emanuelson.

Luiz scored a brilliant goal.
Luiz scored a brilliant goal.

David Luiz: 8
Scored a brilliant goal and his overall performance was outstanding. Defensively sound in the air and on the ground and an attacking threat when he stepped into midfield with the ball.

John Terry: 7
Below par early on but got stronger as the game went on. Got in a great position to score his first goal and the second was the icing on the cake.

Ryan Bertrand: 7
Gave Ruiz no change at all and was willing to get forward regularly too. Has done well in Ashley Cole’s absence.

Ramires: 7
Worked very hard before being taken off in the second half. Picked up Berbatov effectively, limiting the Bulgarian’s threat.

Eden Hazard: 6
Produced one dazzling run but overall struggled to make an impact before being replaced by Oscar in the second half.

Juan Mata: 7
Not at his best but still a danger from set-pieces and served up a great ball into the box for Chelsea’s second goal.

Victor Moses: 5
Uncharacteristically quiet out on the left. Offered very little.

Fernando Torres: 6
Led the line well but did not offer much of a goal threat. Seemed to get frustrated in the second half.

Oscar: 7
Looked lively after coming on.
