Transfer gossip: Conte still wants centre-back, Times reports

A round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving Chelsea…

Chelsea still plan to sign a centre-back this summer despite John Terry agreeing a new deal to stay at the club, The Times reports.

Incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte has been linked with a host of players since it was confirmed the Italian will take over at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Times say he is determined to sign centre-back and that Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci, who has played under him for the Turin club and the national team, is his first choice.

Meanwhile, Italian media reports also claim Juventus winger Kwadwo Asamoah, 27, could be on his way to the Bridge.

It is claimed that a verbal agreement has been reached for Chelsea to sign the Ghana international, who also played under Conte at Juve.

Terry is widely reported to have accepted a significant pay cut and rejected a potential move to China when he opted to stay at Chelsea.

The Daily Mail say the former England captain has taken a £90,000-a-week drop in wages.

The Sun and the Daily Mirror say his new deal means a £100,000-a-week cut.
