Reading comeback means Chelsea youngsters suffer first defeat

Chelsea’s development side lost 2-1 to Reading on Monday evening – their first defeat of the season.

The Blues led at half-time at the Madejski Stadium courtesy of Ike Ugbo’s header from Charlie Wakefield’s cross.

It was a deserved breakthrough for Chelsea as Mason Mount had struck the Reading post and keeper Stuart Moore had produced saves to deny Wakefield, Mount, Mukhtar Ali (pictured) and Ugbo.

But the home side hit back in the second half, with Tyler Frost equalising before substitute Sam Smith netted a late winner.

Meanwhile, Alex Kiwomya has returned to Chelsea to be assessed after suffering dislocated shoulder while on loan at Crewe.
