Mood at Chelsea has changed, says McFarlane

Chelsea interim boss Calum McFarlane says the mood at the club has been transformed by their recent FA Cup semi-final victory.

The Blues headed to Wembley on the back of a poor run of Premier League form but booked their place in the final with a hard-fought win over Leeds.

McFarlane believes the result has provided a vital lift for the players ahead of Monday’s clash with Nottingham Forest.

“It’s always difficult when you’re not performing and not getting the results that you feel like you need,” McFarlane said.

“It’s amazing how a win can change the feel and the atmosphere and the momentum with the group.

“They have been in a really good place the last two days they trained, as has the staff and the club as a whole. Hopefully we can continue that.”

McFarlane, who stepped up from his role with the Under-21s in January following the departure of Enzo Maresca as head coach, will lead the side at Stamford Bridge for the first time as interim manager.

And he is hoping the positive energy from the Wembley win will carry over to the home crowd.

“We need the fans. We need the crowd to bring a positive energy and get behind the team,” he added.

“We all want to do well for this club. We know that there’s still a lot to play for. Like you said, a cup final, and we can still get in the Champions League.”

McFarlane also revealed that Reece James and Levi Colwill could feature in Monday’s game.
