Maresca refuses to clarify ‘worst 48 hours’ remarks
Enzo Maresca has refused to clarify recent comments he made suggesting he was not being supported at Chelsea.
In a strange post-match press conference following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Everton – his team’s first win in five matches – the head coach said it had been his “worst 48 hours” at the club and referred to a lack of support, adding that he was not referring to Chelsea fans, but not explaining what he meant.
Speaking again, this time on the eve of the Blues’ Carabao Cup quarter-final against Cardiff City, Maresca was asked about his remarks and was again cryptic.
“I already spoke about that and I don’t have anything to add,” he said.
“It’s Cardiff tomorrow please. I think I was quite clear, no more than that.
“I respect your (the media’s) opinion. I respect people’s opinion. But again, I don’t have anything to add. My focus is on tomorrow’s game where we can achieve a third semi-final in 18 months since I joined the club.”
Pressed on the issue, the Italian said: “We are in an era where everyone can say what they think. I respect people’s opinion. I don’t have anything to add. My focus is on (the game) tomorrow.”
Maresca confirmed that he will make changes to the Chelsea line-up against the Bluebirds, who are top of League One.
Cole Palmer, who has been eased back following an injury lay-off, will not be involved.
