Mourinho: I’m not looking for a striker

Jose Mourinho insists he is not bluffing when he says he has no intention of signing a striker this month.

The Chelsea boss, who denied the club have made a bid for Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuaín, was reminded of his previous comment that managers often claim they are not looking to make signings when they actually are.

But he replied: “A striker? 100 per cent, no.”

Mourinho has been linked with a number of other forwards, such as Radamel Falcao and England star Wayne Rooney.

But he continues to insist he plans to see out the season with Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba as his strikers before significantly strengthening Chelsea’s squad in the summer.

“It is not a priority. Not an option. We have three,” he said.

“The fans trust the club and I have the feeling they also trust me.

“They know we are building another team for a period of seven or eight years.

“Our nature is to fight for titles, but the fans know we are preparing a team for the future.”
