Blues boss Mourinho denies Higuaín bid

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has denied reports the club have had a £50m bid for Napoli’s Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuaín rejected.

Higuaín, who played under Mourinho at Real Madrid, has been linked with a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

But the Portuguese insists there is no prospect of Higuaín joining the Blues and no attempt has been made to sign him.

Mourinho said: “He’s a player I know we cannot get, because he moved from Real to Napoli six months ago, is doing very well and Napoli is not normally a club that sells.

“I don’t believe they are interested in selling Higuaín, so why should we be interested in someone we feel it’s impossible to come?”

Chelsea have been monitoring a number of players but Mourinho continues to claim that he is not planning to make major signings during this month’s transfer window.

“The market is open but for us it is almost closed,” he said.
