Giroud signs new one-year Chelsea contract

Chelsea have confirmed they have extended Olivier Giroud’s contract by another year.

The striker’s deal at Stamford Bridge was about to expire but the club have taken up an option to extend it by 12 months.

Giroud, 32, has been linked with a return to his native France and had indicated that he was keen to move on in order to get more game time.

He has scored 10 Europa League goals for Chelsea this season but has started just 13 Premier League matches since being signed from Arsenal in January last year.

However, he will be staying with the club.

“I am very happy to sign a new contract,” he said. “I really wanted to stay at least one more year – I have felt a part of the team, the family, since the beginning and hopefully there will be more trophies to come.”
