Lampard insists he wants to stay at Derby

Frank Lampard has insisted he wants to stay at Derby following their defeat in the Championship play-off final.

Chelsea’s all-time record goalscorer has been linked with the manager’s job at Stamford Bridge amid speculation that Blues head coach Maurizio Sarri could be on his way out.

But Lampard, who took over as Derby boss last summer, said he was happy at the East Midlands club after his first season in management ended with them missing out on promotion as Aston Villa beat them 2-0 at Wembley.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Lampard said: “I’ve got a two-year contract here, I’ve loved working here and I want to continue that and I want to continue progressing with the club.”

Lampard, who took Chelsea youngsters Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori on loan for the season, is set to hold talks with Derby owner Mel Morris in the coming days.

The former England midfielder said: “I’m not interested in the speculation. I’ll sit down with Mel Morris over the next few days.

“I have had no conversations with anybody else. I am manager of this club and I am very proud to be manager of this club.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante is a major doubt for the Europa League final against Arsenal after picking up a knee injury in training.
