Terry out and Cahill set to miss City game

John Terry has been ruled out of Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Manchester City and Gary Cahill looks certain to miss the game.

Terry will miss his third match in a row despite Blues boss Jose Mourinho previously playing down the significance of a muscle problem that has been troubling the skipper.

And Cahill has been unable to train since suffering a calf injury during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at West Brom.

Cahill is being assessed.
Cahill had hoped to train on Friday.

England centre-back Cahill picked up the injury late in the game at The Hawthorns and struggled to complete the match.

He tried in vain to join the rest of the squad for training on Friday morning and has been sent for a scan to establish the extent of the problem.

Mourinho confirmed: “He tried to train. He is going for a scan to be sure whether he can or can’t [play at City].”

It could mean Branislav Ivanovic will be moved from right-back in to the centre of defence for Saturday’s encounter.

Cesar Azpilicueta would probably switch from left to right-back, with Ashley Cole returning to the starting line-up.
