Costa has ban extended and is fined £20,000

Costa was sent off during the FA Cup defeat at Everton

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will serve an additional one-match ban and has been fined £20,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct.

The 27-year-old, in reacting to his sending-off against Everton in the FA Cup last month, clashed with Gareth Barry and motioned towards biting him, although the Everton midfielder later said no contact was made.

Costa was originally given a two-match suspension for the red card, but that has now been extended to three after he did not contest the Football Association charge.

It means he will be absent for Chelsea’s trip to Swansea on 9 April.

The Spain international has scored 11 goals in the last 16 games under Blues interim manager Guus Hiddink.
